Impressions & STL files
Digital or conventional, it makes no difference. What matters is what is readable.
Digital impression
- STL (or PLY/OBJ) of both arches, plus a bite registration.
- Full arch, not a segment scan — the superimposition needs as much stable surface as it can get.
- A clean gingival contour around the implant site. Blood, saliva and mobile tissue produce noise that cannot be corrected afterwards.
Conventional impression
Works just as well. Send impressions or models and the scanning is done in the laboratory. Models must be intact in the region of interest — a chipped or abraded ridge becomes an error in the plan.
What voids an impression
- The opposing arch is missing — without it no restoration can be designed.
- The bite registration is missing.
- The scan stops short of the reference teeth the superimposition needs.
- A segment scan with no stable points in two quadrants.
If something is missing, you will hear it the same day. The 48 planning hours run from the moment the file set is complete.
